![]() Only one horse per illustration – Just one.It needs to be the thing that draws the viewer’s attention. The horse should not be hidden away or a minor part of your drawing. The horse must be the main element in your artwork – This means that it can’t be a small part of your image. Those artworks belong to Howrse and you cannot use them however you please. You may not recreate illustrations from the game – No wandering horses, Divines, Wilds, vintage coats, backgrounds from promos, etc.I have also seen people try to slap a horn or wings on a coat they didn’t create. Sorry, that is not yours to submit and it’s very obvious. You may not recreate already existing illustrations or illustrations created by other players – I normally see this for retired creations that people want to get again. You cannot use a line drawing without the consent of its creator – Again, using something you did not create, without permission, constitutes art theft.(Note: I think this rule may have been added later on, since there are some blatant fan art creations on the game that were released early in the game’s life. It doesn’t matter how cool the TV show or book or movie is, the idea is copyrighted by someone else other than you. The drawing must not be fan art (fan art is a creation that takes inspiration from a movie, cartoon or manga representing or referring to a character created by another person) – No fan art.You can, however, use photographs as an anatomical reference as long as you don’t directly copy them. Photographs look completely out of place of Howrse and they are easy to spot when voting for creations. Creations based on a photograph or which are a photograph are not allowed – You cannot take a photo, crop it, and submit it – even if the photo belongs to you.The artwork should have no copyright issues: No one wants a signature on their pretty horse.Ĥ. If you aren’t comfortable with this, don’t submit. mustn’t have a signature – Lots of people like to sign their work to protect it, but once you submit it to Howrse and they use it, it becomes theirs to do with as they please since they have “paid” for it with passes.must not include people – Their game, their rules. This rule does not mean that you cannot make a horse anatomically correct (genitalia on a stallion, for example) but at the same time, that should not be the focus of your image either. Your drawings should not have references to tobacco use, alcohol, or anything illegal. Do not submit drawings that are overly violent or gory, or contain references to adult themes such as sex or pornography. mustn’t include content that could be unsuitable for young players – Howrse is a family friendly game and a lot of kids are on it.There mustn’t be content issues with the drawing: Must comply with the format of the template – As before, you cannot submit artwork without the template.Ĥ.Just don’t use 3D modeling by itself for objects, as many pre-made models are copyrighted by others. However, I have seen artists use basic 3D modeling to get perspective correct in a background before painting over it. This is also true of backgrounds, not just horses. Mustn’t be 3D – You cannot use a 3D modeling program to create your art for the Black Pearl.Add details and make your lines clear and crisp. This makes it look sloppy and unprofessional. Mustn’t be blurry or pixelated – Don’t do pixel art (sprites – think old video game art done pixel by pixel) and don’t over blur your drawing.Howrse will not allow you to upload it at all.ģ. If you don’t use the provided templates (found on the Black Pearl page or in my blog post here) then you won’t be able to submit your work. You must not change the size or format of this template. Your image must be placed on the transparent space on the provided template. I go into this in more detail in that post if you need more explanation as to what art theft / plagiarism is.Ģ. ![]() As I said in my Art Theft post, you must do all your own work. On the other hand, you can use photo references to help you, as long as you don’t just copy them. You must never copy a coat that already exists or an illustration you’ve found on another site. Howrse recently updated some of these rules and I will do my best to explain them.ġ. Without further ado, here are some direct quotes from the Black Pearl’s page, quoted in blue. I hope this helps those with questions! If you need further help, feel free to drop me a comment. I’ve been asked a few times for clarification on the Black Pearl’s rules, so I am going to go through them bit by bit. ![]()
